i am always looking for ways to help out, whether it be buying a meal for someone who cannot afford one, or donating to good charities and organizations. because what would i really be doing with that $10 or $20 anyway?
yes, not everyone has money to spare, but if you do, why not help someone else out? if you are not the type of go-getter to creatively put your money or time to good use, find a charity or organization that speaks to you and let them do the leg work. it is so easy now in this day and age to send some money to someone who needs it more than you needed those two cocktails at that bar, or those four lattes from starbucks.
scrolling through facebook i stumbled upon the organization
stand for trees. it is a way to help preserve sanctuaries for wildlife close to extinction, and also to help keep our planet healthy by protecting the trees. i donated to two different forests. (you can see my badges below.)

like i said, i know not everyone has extra cash lying around, so for those who still would love to help out, i have compiled a list of some ways you can reduce your carbon footprint!
- if you usually drive, find times when you can walk or bike, instead. or try setting up a carpool! this drastically reduces CO2 emissions
- take fewer (and longer) vacations that are far away, and take more frequent driveable "staycations" closer to home
- turn off lights you are not using and replace your incandescent light bulbs with compact flourescent or LED bulbs (and they tend to last longer, too!)
- unplug electronics and appliances you are not using (when appliances are still plugged in and not in use they emit "phantom energy" -- energy that is still flowing through the socket with no place to go)
- eat locally-produced and organic foods
- cut down your beef and dairy intake
- reuse and RECYCLE! (yes, you have to be thoughtful with what you put in your trash, but in the long run, it is way better for our earth if we recycle!)
- take canvas bags with you when shopping at the market to replace taking plastic bags at the checkout. if you happen to take plastic bags, use them as trash bags at home, and check with local grocery stores -- some of them recycle the plastic bags!
